Universal CDC of NY works with local residents, businesses, government, and other nonprofits to improve the quality of life in the city of Mount Vernon. Based on the expressed needs of community members we provide free programs and services that enable individuals and families to gain skills and knowledge necessary to achieve their goals. In an effort to strengthen the community as a whole, we bring neighbors together to identify and prioritize local needs, connect with local leaders and develop solutions.

TAB Project-

The objective of the T.A.B. Project is to educate Young and Adult artists/performers with skills to express themselves through the various mediums of Performing, Visual, Music, & Martial Arts. At the Program’s core lies the recognition of art as the manifestation of theory, practice and creativity. With a commitment to respect the individual, the T.A.B. project fosters inquiry and engages community residents in open-minded exchange.
 

The ReaLife Leadership Program-

RealLife Leadership is Universal’s way of responding to the many challenges facing young people in the urban sector in the educational arena. The goal of this program is assist young people in achieving academic excellence through College Preparatory & Life Skills services with collaborating Professionals, Schools and Community Based Agencies. Services Offered: • Teen MOMS Program • Life Skills & Leadership training • Career Awareness & Readiness Workshops • Academic assistance for middle and high school students and their families • Information on colleges, financial aid, scholarships, careers and vocational institutes • Internet Access • Assistance with college and financial aid applications • Parent Outreach Support network for students • Mentoring Network • Campus Visits

Universal Cares-

Universal works with local residents, businesses, government, and other nonprofits to improve the quality of life in the underserved neighborhoods where we build and preserve affordable housing. Based on the expressed needs of community members we provide free programs and services that enable individuals and families to gain skills and knowledge necessary to achieve their goals. In an effort to strengthen the community as a whole, we bring neighbors together to identify and prioritize local needs, connect with local leaders and develop solutions.

Re Entry Program-

In partnership with local law enforcement agencies, this program provides employment services, mentoring, housing assistance, and supportive services to recently released, nonviolent ex-offenders. UCDC coordinates wrap-around services for each participant, including providing linkages to housing, entitlements, medical and substance abuse treatment, mental health services, and any other resource that will facilitate employment and self-sufficiency.
